Stéphane Derenoncourt came to Bordeaux in the early 1980's, and immersed himself in viticulture as a true beginner, but with great passion. He rose through the ranks as a self-made man, and quickly became aware of the great variety and potential of the terroir in Bordeaux.
His great tasting ability and excellent empathy with the vine environment have made him, today, one of the most perceptive winemakers in many wine regions of France and elsewhere. Although he now works as a consultant for prestigious chateaux in Saint-Emilion, Margaux and Pessac-Léognan, Stéphane is no snob when it comes to less prestigious terroirs such as Castillon or Fronsac, amongst others. Since 1999, he has also been running his own vineyard, Domaine de l'A, in Castillon.
Above all, Stéphane Derenoncourt's work philosophy is to respect nature and the identity of each wine. He makes wines that bridge the regrettable gap between tradition and modernity. His philosophy often refutes old-fashioned ideas and dusty principles. Always ready for a new challenge, he joined the TERRA BURDIGALA project in 2001 to offer the style of Bordeaux wines he loves: unpretentious and charming.
